Will Newer ATI GPU's Run Crossfire On My 775 Motherboard?

Hi all

I have an Asus P5Q Pro Turbo and am thinking of getting 2 x 6950's but i'm not sure if this setup will work as my mobo is pretty old now. I'm not even sure if newer GPU's in crossfire will work on this. Would i need to upgrade my mobo?

Any info would be great
Thanks

I'm no mobo expert but i can't find anything why you couldn't. Great mobo as far as i can see. It's really designed for crossfire, even with a lot of space between the two pci-e slots, so even cooling won't be a problem.

Could be wrong though.

Ok thanks. :) I'm thinking of getting them sometime in the new year. If they don't work then all i can do is return them.

No harm in trying i guess.

yes he can definitely OC that CPU on that board, which would be needed for the 2x 6950. should aim for at least a 3.8 ghz on that.

It shouldn't be too big a deal but its still something to keep in mind.

you don't need to OC to run the cards but it would bring your performance up considering you will probably run into a bottleneck. 2 6950 is a lot more powerful that the gtx295.

I would consider not doing crossfire and get 1 6950(or a 6970) and see how it goes, if you play at 1080p it should be good enough.

Yeh after reading all your comments, you guys make sense. Think i'll save the money and stick to one GPU and see how that goes for now. I can always upgrade later. Had no idea but that 6950 is pretty powerfull when combined with another card.

Why not wait for the new 79XX to show up and you can look at the benchmark then and decide if you want to go with the new 79XX, they're around the corner.

On Tom's preview, http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7970-benchmark-tahiti-gcn,3104.html, they show they 7970 not far behind the GTX 590.
For a single gpu card, it'll be the best.

The only thing that I would be worried about is the PSU.
But it seems like you got enough power to handle it.
As nocteratus said, I would wait for HD 7k series to come out. The price on the vid cards u are looking at will drop like a rock, or you could get a 7k too =D

I guess i'm spoilt for choice but to be honest i just want something that will max out BF3 with no problems. Anything better than my GTX295 will do. I'm sure the 6950 will be ok for me for now.
