Was it a good decision or could I have built something better with that budget?

Also, will I need anything additional? Like a fan, thermal compound, or something because as I said my apartment can get really hot (like room temp 100F).

Additional Comments: My apartment gets really hot in the summertime so I'm kind worried about the PC overheating (my PS3 died like that). The quieter the better.

Isn't that PSU a bit underpowered for the rig and is that CPU/GPU worth the trade off of an i5/6870? I forgot to mention it but I will also be using this for video encoding.

video encoding i5/6870 is better. gaming i3/560ti448 is better.

cx500w should be enough for either 6870 or 560ti. but you can pay $10 more and get a cx600
