I've picked out this Mobo, but I need help buying the RAM. I know this is a pretty elementary question, but the Mobo says that it has 4 memory slots with 8 GB each. Does this mean that I can buy a 4 GB stick of RAM and have it work, or do I have to put in an 8 GB stick?

easy answer: yes, that will be fine.

the "up to 8gb" means that the dimm will not recognize any more that 8gb per stick. to be safe, link the board here.

I linked the board, the link is attacked to the word "this" in my post.

Z68, H67, H61, and P67 will *NOT* mix with 8GB chips - there's been numerous reports of problems if you try to use anything beyond 4GB, also if you try to use speeds beyond 1600.

Whatever your manufacturer - you'd be wise to go to their support site and look at the board specs and the QVL (qualified vendor list) to see what they recommend.
