Mini-DP to normal DP - Cable?

I am looking for what cable to use between my 6970 with mini-displayport, to my dell p2210 wich has a normal displayport.

Can i use any cable or should this be something special. I dont think i need any adapters since this is from DP to DP, right?

Any mini display port/display port adapter will do.

This leaves me with another question though. When you say "Adapter" i get confused, because i thought that is just needed a straight cable with mini-dp to dp?

What does the "Adapter" do?

You're welcome.
It 'adapts' the mini display port to display port. It's a straight through cable, it does nothing more that adapt one size to the other.
A list of AMD approved adapters can be found here > http://support.amd.com/us/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity-dongles.aspx but any mdp/dp plug will do.
