I am thinking of buying one of three laptops with the following graphics cards, i do not use the laptop for gaming but my 5 year old will no doubt want to before soon, can you tell me the main difference between the 3 cards

1-Dedicated (NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M with 1GB DDR Dedicated Memory)(i3 processor)

2- Dedicated (NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 520M with 1GB DDR Dedicated Memory) (i5 prosessor

3-Dedicated (NVIDIA® GeForce® 410M with 1GB DDR Dedicated Memory) (i5 processor)

The best is GT 540M, what games do you play? If you want a better processor you can go with number 2. When you want a better GPU buy number 1. Just make sure you don't buy number 3.

i do not really play pc games (although i keep planning to) but my 5 year old will in time and i was wandering what the difference is in the graphic card specs as i presume they must be at the lower end spec as the laptops are under £500, will they play all modern games? are they much better than integrated hd graphic cards?

Can you list me some games that you will play? Because I can't just say how much better the cards are when you don't give me any examples of games...

Don't worry, 540M will run Them at least in 720p without AA or AF (especially BattleField 3) Others will run at least in 1366x768 with 4x AA and 4x AF.

520M won't run Battlefield 3 even at 720p with both AF and AA disabled. Others run fine at this setting anyway.

410 Won't run BF3 and COD 3, I think Sims 3 and sonic generation will run fine.

I suppose you have the money issue all sorted out.
Skip number three.
You might get bit of a bottleneck with the i3 because its just a dulcor and might be a bit slow.
Go for option 2 since it is the best all rounder

New generation Sandy Bridge laptop (the i3/i5/i7 2xxxM series) is some good processors and the i3 2xxx won't bottleneck up to GT 555M I can say. So Option 1 is the best. Mr/Ms.Marnu123, where do you get that information that an i3 2310M will bottleneck GT 540M?
