What part is the problem?

I have a home built system that has always been giving me problems. Currently it will only boot if the CMOS battery is removed. I'm thinking it is the motherboard but wanted to know if I needed to replace it or does it only need something like a BIOS flash?

MB: Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P
CPU: Phenom 9850+
RAM: 8GB DDR2 800
PSU: Corsair 700w

A BIOS flash is a quick and easy way to diagnose, I'd try going into the BIOS first and resetting to default values before that though.
