Cannot connect to internet through router but can connect to vpn

Hello,
I ha an XP Pro Laptop connected at home to router. Cannot get to internet. I have a VPN set up to connect to work and that works fine, and once connected I can browse the internet. Any thoughts on what is blocking connection to internet without being on VPN ?

Does your VPN connection use a name or IP address? If it uses an IP address then you probably have a DNS issue.

If you have other computers at home which work fine then your laptop may be setup to use a DNS server which can only be reached from your work LAN. The fix will be to change your IP settings to use a router assigned DNS server.
