Dual monitor (clone) 1 hdtv, 1 lcd monitor resolution problems

I have a quad core, 4 gb ram, xp sp3 pc, with a Radeon 4650 video card. I am trying to run clone mode, and clone my desktop to the tv (samsung hls5087w), via a DVI to HDMI cable. I can get it to clone and display properly, but whenever I launch a game, or the full screen tests of DXDIAG, my resolution resets to 848x480. Games will not even allow me to adjust the resolution to full screen. If I disable the HDTV, everything works fine. Is there a way in CCC, to have games ignore my HDTV? I have fiddled with the settings, but maybe I am doing something wrong. My monitors resolution is 1440x900.

I still have no found a solution besides disabling my pc monitor when using the hdtv

Ok so, if I only connect the hdtv and not the monitor, it works fine?
