I have no idea of photography at all.
I have a lot of Nikon Lenses and would like to buy a Canon Rebel digital
camera. Will the Nikon Lenses work or no?....Or do I have to get a
Nikon digital camera?

There's an adaptor made by Novoflex, sold
at BH Photo, that will adapt Nikon mount
lenses to Canon EOS bodies.
But the (canon) camera will only work on
manual focus and manual exposure when you
use that adaptor.

I was in the same boat and just bought the Nikon D70 to use with my
Nikon lenses. If they're cpu lenses you should be ok but if not, then I
guess you could plump for the Canon if you prefer it. My non-cpu & MF
all fit and "work" but only in manual mode. I prefer grab shots and
shooting from the hip and the non-cpu / MF didn't fit the bill.

Please. You have a lot of Nikon lenses and have no idea? Where'd you steal
them?

If those Nikon lenses are autofocus, you should get the D50 or D70. It may
cost more to replace your lenses unless they are all basic consumer
versions.

Similar thought to me. How can someone have had the money to buy all those
Nikon lenses and then think that they may fit a Canon?
In fact, buy the Canon, your Nikkors will not fit, I'II give you £50 for the
lot and that's doing you a favour mate.

It's really rude to assume the only way to own something is to either
buy it or steal it. I have a few Nikkor AI lenses myself, some I
bought, some I bartered for, and some I honestly cannot remember how I
got them. (It's been nearly 30 years!) Your post, aside from being
directed at someone else, was a hair away from calling me a thief...
At one point, I was in the same position as the other poster. I
wondered if the digital cameras being promoted by Nikon would take the
AI lenses. I learned the issues very quickly (crop factor, manual
exposure, metering) and put the idea on the back burner. I was saving
up money to buy a D70 anyway, regardless of the lens compatability,
when a colleague let me shoot some pictures with his EOS 20D.
I bought my 20D the same day.
I'm still in the market for a good, gently used Nikon FE body.
Not everybody who has a bunch of old stuff, is a thief. It's really
not polite to jump on them like a toy poodle that will hump anything
that moves. That's the impression your post and the one before it gave
me.

They could have been inherited. I have a bunch of stuff like that
passed down from father.

Nobody seems to have mentioned something I found out accidentally
recently.
I got a Canon 30D digital because my old lenses would fit it, and the
fact that the focal lenses had to be multiplied by 1.6 was generally a
bonus.
But I also had a 17mm lens I had paid a lot for, and the pictures were
less exposed than those from the other lenses. Apparently for wideangle
lenses on a digital camera you need specially designed ones. Film picks
up scattered light that sensors do not, so your wideangle lenses come
out underexposed.
And, of course, the specialty lenses are expensive.
I also got excited and ordered one of the special EOS 10mm lenses (which
becomes 16mm on the digital), and discovered that it only fits the very
latest EOSs. The mirror has had to be tucked away more, or something.
But I got my money back ok.

I don't have this problem with either my old Sigma 17-35 f2.8-4, my Sigma
15mm f2.8 fisheye or my newly acquired Canon 16-35 f2.8L on either my D30 or
20D.
