Can your cpu work if not locked in?

If you were to not lock your processor into place with the lock bar and just happened to set it on top of the cpu slot, would your computer still work?

cause mine does but me and my friend started thinking we didn't lock it into place.

I know it is a very dumb move if i didn't but i needed to ask.

I'm guessing this is an AMD CPU? I'm not positive because I've never seen or heard of anyone doing it, but I would doubt that it would work. The pins need to "engage" into the socket to make an electrical connection.

If it's an Intel CPU, I'm positive that it wouldn't work (and with the way the mechanism is for Intel CPU's, you couldn't do that anyway and still put the cooler on it).

It is AMD, and i am not 100% if i did or not, i just want to ask if it would work before i freaked out about it.

The lock thing exists to keep it in place and it gives no drawbacks so there's no reason not to use it
