No cursor on screen remote access

I have an HTPC and feel I have no need for a mouse and keyboard as I can just use my tablet for that. However, I noticed the cursor isn't there, which obviously is a big problem.
I figured out I need a mouse connected to the computer to get it to show up.
Plug in a mouse = cursor on screen using remote access
No mouse plugged in = no cursor using remote access

I don't really want to have a mouse connected all the time, doesn't make sense. Is there somewhere in the settings to make the cursor show up even if a mouse isn't connected?

No one?
With all the tablets out there and HTPCs, no one uses a tablet as a remote for their PC?

There has to be some setting buried somewhere to enable the cursor even when no mouse is connected.
