Hi,
My friend has a Phenom 2 X4 955 with dual GTX 570's, he is running an AM3+ motherboard. Is it worth him upgrading to an FX 8 core CPU? I have heard that they are not great for gaming but it would be the cheapest way to upgrade.

Will an FX 8 Core perform better than a Phenom 2 X4 955 while gaming with dual 570's?

He is gutted that my i7 performs much better, any thoughts guys?

Thanks

John

I think is not worth the upgrade for gaming, wiith other applications may be worth.

Try to OC your 955 a bit so it runs faster, nowadays there are still people buying AMD 965BE for gaming

I do not own any FX chips out there but I own a 955. There's no point in upgrading to Bulldozer as they're not faster than Phenom chips with regards to gaming since the extra cores you gained weren't being utilized.

If you're planning to upgrade from the 955 then go the Intel route.

Would be more of a sidegrade for gaming cheaper and better way would be get an aftermarket cooler and OC as far as you can. If this yield the results he wants happy days if not he can either wait a few months for Piledriver CPU's (AM3+ socket) or switch platform to Intel.
