Amperage requirements for amd 6770

Please have a look at the power label and get the 12 volt rails. For a light system, you may be able to get away with 18-20amps, but if you have anything even remotely power hungry, it may just blow up in your face.

From the link above,

• Effi ciency: >65% at full load, nominal line

That is just BAD and an older design, most likely pushing high current on its 5 and 3.3 lines.

This is simply not the way PC's run now days, its all about the 12 volt power(and that is only a portion of the 450watts. On a good power supply, it will be 80-90% of the total, on older and lower end units, it will be 40-50% or lower of the total power).

There are many 450 watt power supplies out there with a little over 200 watts on the 12 volt rails. I have a bad feeling this one may fall into that category.

Straight to the answer about 8.5 amps(MAX, not always) will run a 6770 by it self. This does not include the cpu and other parts.

How about taking the guess work out of it and just buying a good buy cheap PSU. Any of these will work and it will allow you to get better than a 6770 if you want.

Personally I would get the OCZ its a good brand its modular and its a good price.
The 500w corsair is $5 cheaper though and still a good buy. If you get the 430w it will still work and it comes with a $15 card you will be emailed and gives you $15 off on the GPU when you buy that.

@OP: the capacity of psu depends on the pc you're gonna run. that thing is gonna power your whole pc. if you cheap out on the power deilivery ( i.e. the psu) and get good components - you risk the stability and reliability of your pc. your psu is old, probably less capable when it was new (component aging).
get a good psu, ensure your pc's safety a bit more.
a new 80+ rated, 450+ watt psu with 30-40A on its +12v rail will be sufficient for a 6770. most of those include pcie connectors.
are any of these available at your location?

This is a very good link.

My testing shows a bit lower(My 5770 system has a very hard time pushing 200 watts[Games + prime95] from the wall and stays closer to 140 in games. I also have a 4350 that the full system has yet to pass 90 watts[games, but without prime at the same time], but i call it just a bit weak in media canter[animation with video], but video playback is great.), but a very good link none the less.
