Stock I3 vs e8400 4ghz

Yup, 2nd and 3rd gen i3's can be OC'd. They're stuck at their stock frequencies forever  

I think a 4GHz e8400 can very well tie with a stock core i3-2100   AES encryption maybe an exception! btw i run a e8400 at stock, its still plenty fast for me  

Yeah, the E8400 @ 4.0GHz will be faster or just as fast as a 2nd gen Core i3 depending on which model you are referring to.

E8400 is a very capable processor. Despite it's age, it still gets the job done

i upgraded from a E8400 oc'd @ 3.8 and the i3-2120 @3.4 is faster in everything that i do. depending on the motherboard, you can oc an i3 through the Bclk. not more than 3-4% though.

was browsing with images disabled to save my broadband usage from exceeding my 1.5GB limit   cudn't see d edit button  

I strongly advice against fiddling with the BCLK, that unnoticeable 3% may end up screwing some other peripheral devices  

A 3% or 4% increase is not very noticeable outside of benchmarking.

But at least you have the satisfaction of OC'ing a Sandy Bridge Core i3 CPU I suppose.
