Hey guys,

I am about to purchase a Planar PX171M lcd for my new computer. I would also like to buy one of the Video-EX input boxes, so that I can watch tv and play my XBOX on my computer; however, I have a setup question:

The Planar monitor accepts both DVI and analog inputs. If I connected my computer to the monitor through the DVI input and then connected the Video-EX to the analog input, can I switch from each source through the monitor? Or, can I only have one input plugged in at a time? I hope this makes sense. Thanks :)

You should have no trouble connecting to both the digital and analog inputs, and then switching between them via the monitor controls. You have to call up the menu, and then go to the appropriate item to do it, but it is straightforward. I was running an older computer ( 200mhz gateway with a matrox video card) on the analog connection and a newly built one ( 2.4ghz P4 on an asus mobo) on the dvi, and switching between them to do data transfers and other checks. It took 10 to 15 seconds to switch from one to the other, using the PX171M menus. One other thing to note is that if only one input is active, the monitor automatically switches to the active one. I think it is a great monitor.
