Hey all. I have been trying to build myself a budget gaming rig based on the builder marathon. Sadly, stuff is either a higher price or out of stock. I have had to mix and match some products so I want to make sure that all this stuff is quality and will work well together. Also, the i5 is a 2400, is the 2500k worth upgrading to for 20 more dollars?

The items already included in the build are here:

i5-2400 processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Graphics card Radeon 6870: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Seagate Barracuda 320GB HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Standard Samsung DVD burner: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SH-222AB-BEBE-Internal-Wr...
MSI ATX Motherboard: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005GM9KN0/ref=ox_sc_a...

The items I subbed in are here:
4GB Corsair Single RAM stick (Is it better to get 2x2gb dual channel?): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZDJ42O/ref=ox_sc_a...
Corsair 430W Power Supply: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-430-Watt-Certified-Compat...
30$ Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Thanks!

You wouldn't be able to overclock the i5-2500k on that board it's H61. That board is really expensive.

I would get this one instead, You won't be able to crossfire but same is true with the H61. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

With the 2500k being on sale I would definitely get that.

This 6870 is $145 with MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I would go for a 4gb stick now and dual channel with another 4gb later but that's more up to preference.

+1 to ivan's suggestions, except I would go for a 2x2gb memory kit now. You definitely want to be running dual channel. If you want to add more later, just get another 2x2gb kit.

I suggest this memory kit, its nothing fancy but reliable and quick: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Also, you would be much better served by this NZXT Source 210 case, which is effectively the same price as the one you chose because of its shipping costs, and is superior in every way.

I heartily approve of the PSU choice, sticking with a good brand, and model that has reviewed well.

H61 is incredibly limited to what it can do, as is H67. You're better off going with Z68 or P67 if you want to overclock.

I'd just get 2 x 8GB RAM - it's so cheap and 8GB will be better in the long run - but watch the heat sinks if you get the Vengeance. You need low profile RAM if you want to install any sort of after-market cooler. I'd suggest this - one of the best brands on the market: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Thanks for the help guys. I will definitely make that change. If I go for the overclocking w/ the 2500k and the new mobo, will my 430w power supply suffice or should I substitute a 600w? I am going to go for the 4x4 dual channel ram. Thanks for that link as well.

Your PSU will be fine.

Not for a 6870 - Sapphire says system requirements for a 6870 are 500W minimum, 430 won't cut it:

I wouldn't go with a case that cheap - get a Cooler Master HAF 912 - I have one and I can vouch for it that they're very well built and include tons of features that you won't find in the price range - it's only a $20 difference: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
