Hello,
I have a Gateway DX-4831-01e tower, Intel Core 6GB blah blah blah thingie with a very crappy integrated intel graphics card. I have open PCI, PCI Expx1 and PCI Exp x16 availability. What graphics card would be better?
*Edit*
Here's why I'm on this mission with me vs the graphics card...I play WoW (yes girls play MMO's!) and just download SWTOR. WoW runs fine on mid-graphic settings but I lag on graphics horribly in SWTOR

current graphics card is not handling the cities in SWTOR well at all. I have all the settings as low as possible and i still get horrible "graphics" lag. Current graphics card runs WoW sufficiently but the graphics on SWTOR seem to be overwhelming it

Frankly, it's amazing i've gotten this far in somewhat knowing what i'm talking about. All I know is I can disable the built in card in favour of a new graphics card. Sorry -.-

that is a good card and deal and you will need to upgrade your psu it is probably barley capable of what is already inside it.

Thanks a ton. This was a lot less painful then going to BestBuy and trying to ask one of their "experts". I was aware of the PSU upgrade issue. I just hope this fixes the graphics lag in SWTOR although apparently a lot of ppl are having this issue

That is a PCI-E 2.0 card and its above her power supply requirements.

Good news: I found the specs of your computer.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/ite...

Bad (MEH) news: Your PSU is only 300 watts and your motherboard only has a PCI-E 1.0 x16 slot. This unfortunately limits your options. Most cards that meet these requirements have been taken off the online market. Here is something on newegg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

The card will definitely give you more playable fps in the games you play though. If there is a local computer store in your area such as microcenter, they may have more PCI-E 1.0 x16 cards.

Hope this helped. :)

Actually sorry it seems I've given you some misinformation. I thought your slot was PCI-E 1.0 but it is 2.0. My bad.

If you do not decide to upgrade your PSU, this is the best preforming card I could find that can run on a 300W PSU.

I wouldn't trust a 300W prebuilt power supply to power a flashlight.

Will be an improvement over your current PSU and GPU but wont max newer games. (140 on sale, no shipping/tax)

For a bit more, better improvements. (175 no shipping/tax)

I agree. If you wanted to try to run something with 300 watt requirement you could try. It might be fine. If you were planning on spending $150 on a card, just buy a card for 90 and a PSU for 60.

6790 uses too much power, a 6850 would be the next step up.

What are you confused about?
You need both a power supply and a graphics card. Something new won't run the game good either, unless you spend $800 or more and even then it may be worse than a $150 upgrade.

I dropped you a message. And can help you out. Plenty of options out there, but you need to upgrade your PSU along with your vid card.

Just spend about 45-50 on a powersupply and 90-100 on a card. There are alot of cards already linked on this thread. If you are confused because you don't think you can replace a PSU, its very simple. Just follow cables from the PSU to the components and take notes as to what cables go where.

Wouldn't buy and Ultra brand PSU. One of the unknown brands that I don't consider.
