Hey there people of this website on the internet, i've come across alot of feedback on builds of PC's that other people have done, and i'm building my first PC at the moment, so i'd like a bit of feedback on what i've got here, i haven't bought anything (except for the GPU and PSU) so i'd like to see if theres any alternatives i should look for.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3
GPU: Gigabyte GTX550ti
PSU: Some CoolerMaster 700W one
Case: Antec One Hundred

thats it i think... undecided on the RAM but that is a less priority seeing how inexpensive it is at the moment.

(if you have suggestions for alternative parts try to suggest ones at a similar pricepoint, i'm only 14 so i have a limited budget)

:o  this looks fun: :bounce:

Well basically the ones you bought are the ones that are what i would change. CoolerMaster PSU's are nearly 99% utter trash and barely better than generic psus. They underdeliver, are underspec'd, have horrible stability, over rated, and junk. If it's not a Silent M Pro (which is CM's only decent psus) then return it. GTX550ti is dated but alright for 16xx resolution and 1920x1080 at reduced settings.

The rest of the build is good. Grab some decent ram for bout $50 and possibly a good but cheap cpu cooler like a the CM212+ / Evo and call it a day.

Will you consider going Intel? How much is your budget for the motherboard & processor? You can edit your original post to put the $ on each of the components so we can suggest better alternatives without exceeding your budget.

thanks for that, the GPU is what i'm going to update after i buy a larger HDD, possibly a GTX 560 or ATi equivalent, i bought the PSU and GPU at the same time as my PSU at the time was only about 350W., and i didn't really know what was a good PSU and what wasn't, and i was itching for a new GPU so i kinda went for the cheaper option

this is what i can get (AUS pricing btw)

Gigabyte GA-970A-D3: $97
AMD Phenom II X4 945: $125
Antec Three Hundred: $55
RAM: $30-$60

As for considering intel, i did for a while but i decided against it, i don't know why but from review an intel i3 2120 has 10% better performance than an FX-4100 (which is apparently a piece of crap) and so a Phenom II was recommended instead.

Phenom II is no better than i3-2120. Here is a bench between i3-2100 vs the Phenom II X4 955. The i3-2100 is less than the i3-2120 but it still beats the X4 955 which is stronger than the 945 in almost all category:

The other issue is that once you buy the AM3+ board, the only upgrade path is the FX which is not as good as intel gets. On the otherhand, getting an 1155 motherboard open up your cpu upgrades to more powerful options such as the i5 & i7.

I'm sure you can buy a good i3-2120 + 1155 mobo within your $222 budget.
