ok then, what is the best sound card for a computer, i mean the absolute best commercial card that supports more than 5.1 prefferably up to 10.2 if those are out yet, i want to set up a very nice cinema with computer archived movies all controlled by a dedicated box, i want as much as possible to be inside my box, the only externals at the moment are keyboard mouse and projector, im looking for a very good speaker setup and a very good graphics card...
where did all my money go, ahh... [-peep-], forgot that i lived in london
To get the best sound out of your system, I would recommend that you get a DVD Player that has Hardware Decoding, such as the one from Creative, then add in a soundblaster live Platnium. Use the coax or Optical outputs on the card and plug them in to a Dolby Digital/DTS suroundsound reciever or amp, then get good quality speakers and enjoy it that way. If you are using a projector, you are probably using a room that is larger than 12' by 12' and will not get the superb sound quality that you expect from PC speakers, no matter how much you spend. My current Sound setup is self built: it includes:
Soundblaster Live Value
Teac AG-D9320 Digital Reciever
JBL, Sony and Bose Speakers.
the Cost for all this so far, under $800.
to upgrade to DVD will only cost $150 - $200 more as I will add sometime in June:
Hoontech SB DB-III
$34 @http://store.yahoo.com/tracertek/hoonsbdbifor.html
Creative Encore 12X DVD Drive. $124 at Compuplus.com
Of course the bigger the room, the more expensive the speakers will be. Hope this hepled you out. let me know how your system works
