I'm wondering rather to buy a GTX 570 (most likely MSI) or the Asus GTX580 Direct CU/II. I'll be playing games like crysis 2, BF3, upcoming GTA5, and other high graphics games. I want to run highest settings and still get decent FPS. I probably will use MSI Afterburner or the Asus GPU Tweaker to O.C. a little bit but not much. So which do I choose? MSI's 570 or Asus's 580? 580 is great but will the 570 do just fine in those games? 570 is $100 cheaper.

May I suggest consideration of a 3rd alternative .......

Guru3D uses the following games in their test suite, COD-MW, Bad Company 2, Dirt 2, Far Cry 2, Metro 2033, Dawn of Discovery, Crysis Warhead. Total fps (summing fps in each game @ 1920 x 1200) for the various options are listed below:

In other words ......

.... the 580 will get ya 616 fps in Guru 3D's game test suite for $500 at a cost of 81 cents per frame
.... the 570 will get ya 524 fps in Guru 3D's game test suite for $340 at a cost of 65 cents per frame
.... the 560 will get ya 495 fps in Guru 3D's game test suite for $215 at a cost of 43 cents per frame

.... two 560s will get ya 862 fps in Guru 3D's game test suite for $430 at a cost of 50 cents per frame
.... two 570s...

Highest settings? I dont think so, really depends on your resolution. I say do not get eith 570 or 580, instead opt for the 7970, its new tech and will last you a lot longer. If your heart is set than the 580 is your best choice as of right now!

.... two 580s will get ya 953 fps in Guru 3D's game test suite for $1000 at a cost of 1.05 cents per frame

So ....

-two 560's get ya 40% more fps than a single 580 for as much as $70 less
-two 580's get ya just 10% more than the the two 560's for $570 more

In years past, I'd have gotten the single high powered card to leave room for the upgrade later...... But to spend $1,000 versus $430 to get 10% more fps .... some time down the line ? I'd rather get the 40% boost from the getgo......and great 850 watt PSU's (W/ 10.0 jonnyguru performance ratings) can be had from as little as $115

i got a GTX 580 when it first came out. then i bought a 550ti for a second PC to play BF3. I really cant notice a difference. both can handle games perfectly. People often spend way too much on video cards, then next thing you know its obsolete...

The new radeon HD7970 will be in stores january 9. So which ever way you decide you should wait a while to see if it has an impact on prices.

cybneo: whether there is any noticable difference depends on settings that are being used

Alright thanks for the advice, I might opt for the HD7970 depends on how it goes. The only problem is im not familiar with AMD/Radeon compared to Nvidia. Does it offer things equal to physx and other graphics enhancers?
