What do i need to download to record myself from my microphone

Hello, So.... I don't really know were to start. Do I need to download anything for me to start my recording? I'm kind of stuck on this. And what are the things that I need if all I want to do is record myself with no musical instruments but I also need a MPC and I heard those were really expensive.
