Windows cant read the drive e:

Tried several so called fixes but nothing has resolved the issue of not reading a blank cd or dvd and no recording tab in the cd drive properties in my Sony Vaio vpceb43fx running Windows 7 64-bit. Does anyone has a resolution for this issue?

  1. Hi :)

If it plays a normal MUSIC CD (not a copy disc) but it wont write either a cd or dvd its probably a faulty drive, its a fairly new laptop...is it still under warranty ? if so return it or get them to send you a drive for free...

    All the best Brett :)

Thanks for the reply. The drive is in good working condition just found out it will burn a cd or a dvd with windows media player. the thing is that windows will not recognize a blank disk in the drive but windows media player will. I would just like to have windows recognize a blank disk.
  3. Hmm so E: doesn't show that its a blank cd/DVD? Hmm. Does separate burning software still work? If so, well Two things:

    Try these steps. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070516094918AAbxH57

Before you those steps though, also check your autoplay settings. AKA Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>AutoPlay
  4. Check out
    ftp://ftp6.nero.com/tools/InfoTool.zip
This will give you a full list of the capabilities of the drive...

Also you have enabled recording to the drive?

If this isnt enabled it might be why you are having prob, though I would be curious to know what steps you've taken and if you have dedicated burning software like Nero?
