Computer sleep mode problem

Hi, when I try to put my computer to sleep, the displays and usb's all turn off, but the fans and lights stay on. The light in front blinks as if it's in sleep mode, but the lights and fans remain running.
When I try to turn it back on, the display does not come on, and the keyboard does not come on (when I press a button on keyboard, the 'numlock' light just flashes).
Therefore, I must turn the tower off (hold power button for 5 secs), then turn it back on. It then proceeds normally, but somehow manages to "resume windows" and goes back to pre-sleep state.
Also, if I sleep the computer from there on, it goes to sleep normally.

This bug just happens the first time I try to sleep it.

Here are my system specs:

MOBO: ASUS P8Z68-v lx
CPU: i5-2500k @ 3.3
GPU: EVGA GTX 570 SC
RAM: 2x4GB Kingston Hyper X

I'm fairly certain that it's a mobo issue, but I would definitely appreciate some help to fix this.
Thank you.
