Hello,

Here is the situation :

I have a laptop connected to internet via a router using WiFi.

My desktop computer doesn't have a WiFi connection. I want to connect my laptop and my desktop computer using an ethernet cable in order to access the internet on my desktop computer.

Any ideas how to do this? I've been fiddling around for over two hours with no luck so far. Both computers are on Windows 7.

Thanks for reading! Hope I was clear enough!

you'll need a switch or crossover cable to be able to connect the laptop and the desktop together through the ethernet LAN ports.

All you have to do is enable internet connection sharing on your wireless adapter from within the laptop, and specify that your Local Area Connection (wired) is the one you want to share to. Then, you will be able to access the net on your desktop once you authenticate to a wireless access point from the laptop.

Okay.. Well something is not working. I think my wired connection isn't properly configured. The laptop says the wire network is unidentified.

Must be something in the tcp/ip protocol?
That's how I did it:
On my desktop computer :
IP Address : 192.168.137.2
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

On my laptop :
IP Address : 192.168.137.1
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

All other fields are blank. Laptop can ping desktop, not the other way around.

Okay, both can ping eachother now!

Desktop computer settings
IP Address : 192.168.137.2
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Default gateway : 192.168.137.1

Laptop settings
IP Address : 192.168.137.1
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

Laptop still claims the connection is unidentified. Any ideas?
