Hello,
I am currently looking to upgrade my crappy 4gb of memory to 16gb of Corsair Vengeance memory. But my problem is I do not know if I need a new psu. My current one is 550w.

Specs: M4A78LT-M Motherboard
GTX 550 TI 2gb DDR5 Graphics Card
AMD Phenom II 840 Processor
If you need any other information I would gladly give it to you.

More about : purchase psu

Your PSU is sufficient. I hope its from a good/reputed brand. :)

memory modules only draw a very small wattage

probably around 5w a module so psu is fine

but you must have a 64bit operating system to use the 16gb of ram or youre wasting your money

No worries. The PSU can handle additional RAM sticks. Just a matter of interest, why the sudden jump from 4GB to 16GB? VMWare?

Change is because I run off of 2 monitors and my games are starting to lag because I run out of RAM and have to have my hard drive pick up the slack. And thanks for the help guys!

Could be the 550 Ti. It is not really a very powerful card so that might be due for upgrade instead of the RAM as 4GB is usually enough.

I am playing LEague of legends and diablo 3. Trust me its not the 550 ti. I can run skyrim on this thing at max with 50-60 frames. My memory peaks out whenever I get into a fight and it starts to chug. The GPU memory never goes above 50%

you should be having no issues with diablo III since its hardware requirements are below skyrim.

LoL may be a connection issue or a CPU issue. the phenom 840 is actually an athlon II CPU using the phenom II name.

4GB of RAM is plenty for all three games.

P.S. have you tried turning one monitor off and see what kind of performance you get? randomkid may be correct, the GPU may not be able to run a game and a second monitor.

I dont play two games at the same time. I play one while having skype, firefox, xsplit, and other programs open. So my memory gets eaten very quickly.
