A friend of mine has this Dell computer and asked me for help. I opened the case to perform a routine cleaning and there was dust every where. after I shot some air and dust was gone, the computer worked flawlessly. Could also be a dying hard disk. Hope you make it through with your system.

Best regards.

Hi Brett

Yes no problem with hard drive

last known configuration no luck either.

Previous to this problem I was doing a system restore to a earlier date

computer shut down as it does at the end of this process and this problem of hanging on the xp screen

occurred

I had cleared out the restore file to free up space on the hard drive since this is only a 27 gb drive

but that was about two weeks ago and I did have new restore dates to go back to.
