My good old Radeon HD 4870 has started to get flakey and I need to upgrade. I'd like to upgrade to an HD 6950 but I am worried about being CPU limited. Also if the 6950 doesn't work what is the best I can do?
System Specs:
Phenom II X 4 940 BE oc to 3.5Mhz
4 GB DDR2 RAM
P.S. I don't have to money to upgrade the core of my system so don't bother suggesting it.

A 6950 would be a good choice. Don't bother with the 2gb model though unless your running multiple monitors.

Get a 6870 because it mitigates the value of a 6950 and then some.

What do you mean when you say it mitigates the value? Are you saying that the performance between the two cards is similar and that I should just save the money?
