I have the Panasonic FZ5, and my wife has the FZ20. We have both been
very pleased with these cameras (12X zoom with image stabilisation). A
swivel LCD would be a nice addition.

Seconding David Taylor's recommendation of the Panasonic FZ series,
especially the FZ5. Also, Canon this month releases its 12x zoom. 5-mp
Powershot S2 IS, which has the swivel LCD and a time-lapse photography
setting. It should come out around $499 USD, nearly the same as the
FZ5.

Stop trying to confuse Clint with facts. Besides, that makes way too
much sense to work.
