So... an older LGA1156 platform dual core with 4GB of memory, 500GB hard drive, DVD burner, and a basic case. The power supply is nice... Skip that "deal". A new Intel build can come in around $800 and would greately outperfom that machine.

That is a terrible deal. A friend of mine built a computer that would greatly outperform that one(had a quad core, gtx 260, etc.) for only 575$. The only thing he got used was his gtx 260, and if he had bought it new, it would have only cost 620$. He also got this at the beginning of LAST year.

If you buy from newegg and amazon, and put it together yourself, you can wipe the floor with that computer at 1000$.(I know Canadian is a little bit different, but 999 cad =
~1008 usd).

I was afraid I would get advice to 'build your own'. It scares me to think I could spend all that money and then have a useless box. So went to dell and looked at a couple of pre-builts. Any ideas on these two? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Slow Optical Drive and bad PSU. You can do much better than that for $1k.

Best solution

If you insist on buying a prebuilt computer, the xps 8300 is supposed to be one of the best(i had it recommended to me in these forums). I would choose that.

This deal is from a friend of mine who closed his shop. He is liquidating his inventory, and has this beautiful blue gamer for sale.CHEAP!

He has over a grand in it and if you message him,and tell him donlev sent you he will throw in the 550 ti dc top gpu for free. It is future proof and I watched him playtest battle field 3 on ultimate settings with the 550 ti. On a 21" monitor. He also has a 560 ti that he would let go with it but would need to add to the price for that. You could not even build this with windows7 installed and a 550 ti for this cheep and the system is brand new.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/220977340941?ssPageName=STRK:ME...

If you are interested don't forget to message him and tell him donlev sent you. Otherwise he may not offer the free gpu...
March 20, 2012 11:26:30 PM

Good news ...My friend just changed the listing to include graphix card and left the option to upgrade to 560 ti. You wont be able to build one for that price. Not with a gen3 z68 mobo,8g 1600, i5 2500k and win7 installed. No way!!!

He just closed his shop and his GF is nagging him about stuff sittin around.lol

Looks like a good machine but probably too much, according to my limited research, for what I need. Did this build on Direct Canada website - how does it look. Scared as hell to do this myself but any info I've gotten they say it is best.

You have an amd motherboard and an intel processor. If you want that processor you need an intel 1155 socket mobo.
Also if you are going with the smaller processor with no overclock, you might save $5 and get 1333 mhz ram instead of 1600. You wont know the difference.

You will also need a power supply unit and an operating system (Win7)

Actually you will spend more for that setup than you will the pc I linked. My friend has relisted it with a reserve price of $575. As long as the bid is at least there, you can get it, and for less than you have your build going on for. It is really a great buy. Here is the new link...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/220983401922?ssPageName=STRK:ME...

I know for a fact he has over a grand in it and it is brand new. He just needs to sell it. You could eventually get an ssd and reload win7 with the key that comes with it, and still be under the price of the build you are putting together.

You have $770 already and still need a power supply(about $50) and win7 (about $100) for a total of $920. You would be allot better to get the kick but computer with a much better gpu and upgradeability for years to come for $600 including shipping! :bounce:

I can contact him, He will change the listing to ship to canada but it will probably cost a little more for shipping. And sometimes customs delays the shipping a week or so. I am sure he wouldn't mind sending to canada providing your payment clears paypal...

Just give me 15 minutes and I will see if I can let him know, then check his shipping again...

Ok rather than a new post... I called him and he changed his add while we were talking on the phone. It will cost about $30 more to send to canada, but still worth every penny... He already has one bidder but they didn't bid high enough.

Good Luck!
