How many of you play BF3 on a large screen (46"+)? What gpu do you use? Are you happy with the performance?

My pc ended up being a htpc for my 50" plasma and I'm wanting to play bf3 on it. After some very recent upgrades, the important stuff is:

-AMD FX-4100 3.6 GHz
-GSkill 4gb
-Gigabyte 880GM- USB3 mobo
-650 watt psu

Without spending a fortune, what would be a good gpu (Radeon preferred) to be able to play on the 50" @ 1920x1080 on high settings? Or is my "without spending a fortune" comment a pipe dream (on that sized screen at resolution)?

Thank you in advance for any help/advice given.

Everything maxed@1080p with the best framerates: HD 7970 when it comes out on the 9th. That would put you back $550 though. This card is about 60fps average with everything maxed.

A decent card to play 1080p with mostly maxed settings would be a 6950-6970 with 2GB ram or GTX 570. That would be about $300-350. I have tried BF3 with a 6950 with everything max 1080p, and it was choppy. I turned down a few settings and it looked good and played well after that.

The screen size doesn't affect performance; it's only the resolution that matters. A 20" screen with 1080p has just as many pixels as a 40" screen with 1080p.

Actually, the screen size as far as I know doesn't affect performance that much or actually doesn't affect at all (correct me if I'm wrong). The one that would differs is actually the resolution. Now since you got 1080p on the resolution and plan to play BF3, In my opinion you would be good with 6950 1GB. And bottleneck depends on the game actually, so if a game is more CPU dependent then the GPU, it would bottleneck more. But as far as I know this is not the case for BF3 so I think you would be OK. Processor won't come to play also in 1080p whatever the screen size is when the application is only using the GPU and would use the processor the same on each different programs either using 21.5 inch or 50 inch if the resolution is the same if I'm not wrong.
