  1. Depends on which phenom II X4 you mean. The FX 6100 does not perform any better in gaming than the FX 4100 so FX4100 is better for the money.

But all is easily beaten by an intel processor at the same price point so consider going intel instead of any of those 3 processors.

    Hi skitz9417,

An AMD Phenom II x4 840 processor is weaker than both the FX-4100 and FX-6100 processors. Also, FX-4100 performs identical to FX-6100 in gaming so buying FX-6100 is not a good move. Therefore, between these three, the FX-4100 is overall better, delivering good performance and better overclocking potential.

If you do not plan to overclock your CPU, then I think you should go with the Intel Core i3 2100 because this processor performs a little better in games when compared to the non-overclocked FX-4100 and FX-6100 CPUs.

If I was at your place, I would have gone with AMD FX-4100 CPU which saves some money and then buying a solid Graphics Card to get a better overall system for gaming. FX-4100, as Tom's Hardware says, is not an exceptional product at stock speeds but when overclocked it delivers identical performance to Core i3 2100. This processor can go upto 4.6GHz without much hassle.

So, I think you should save some money by getting FX-4100 and then you should buy a powerful Graphics Card.

didn't you mention overclocking also needs a better cooling management, reducing lifespan better to get the i3 2100 which is quite powerful gaming cpu.

It's just an Athlon II "650" actually & only renamed as Phenom II because this Athlon II is catching up on the lower Phenom II's. It has max 16 multiplier so OC can be achieved just by raising the HTT bus. Not a very nice proposition.
  11. I might get a fx 4100 and sli two gtx 550 or get a hd 7770
