I purchased an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T last year when I thought I could get my computer built. It never happened. Now I have the money (mostly) and I am questioning whether it is worth it to sell this thing and buy an i5 2500k. I know the i5 2500k is better but is it by a substantial enough amount to warrant me selling my AMD, considering AM3 motherboards are generally cheaper than 1155 motherboards.

If it helps my specs so far are as follows

GPU: GTX 560 (one for now I will get another when I have the money)
Power: 750W
SSD: 60 GB
HDD: 500 GB
RAM: 4 GB (I am planning on getting 4 GB more)

I have yet to buy the motherboard as I have not determined the processor as stated above.

Hmm. It's really a toss up. As you said, you already have the CPU, and you have to figure in the time and hassle of selling it also. I'm leaning towards just keeping what you've got, and getting an AM3+ MB and be done with it.

Hi :)

I run 1100T BE`s in all my gaming machines...

I run crossfire big cards with no problem at all....

The 1100T depending on which benchmark you look at can beat most i3s, some i5s and even some i7s...

So considering you only have to buy a motherboard , its a no brainer really...

All the best Brett :)
