Basically after returning to my desktop after taking a few months off gaming its gone pop and I've came to the conconclusion the only way I can get decent value for money performance is to build my own instead of handing more money to dell, will be my first full build but I'm quite confident in my ability to get all the hardware together.

Planning on:

Motherboard - ASRock P68 Extreme7 Gen 3 S1155

Processor - Intel core i5 2500k

Graphics - Asus Geforce GTX 560 Ti 1gb

RAM - Corsair Vengeance 8gb (2x4gb) 1600MHz

Power supply - Corsair TX850 modular

Storage - OCZ Vertex 3 90gb SSD and 250gb WD Caviar Blue SATA-600

Optical Drive - Sony 24x DVD-RW

Approximate Purchase Date: As soon as I am confident with component selection

Budget Range: £1500 max-ish

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming - mainly MMO's, looking to play guild wars 2 on very decent settings.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: www.dabs.com

Country: England

Parts Preferences: None really, although i seem to have a biased towards nvidia cards because I've always used them in the past.

Overclocking: Definitely going to give it a go, will be my first time though.

SLI or Crossfire: If applicable and affordable

Monitor Resolution: 1440x900 at the minute, need to invest in a 1080 screen at some point.

~

I'm after a machine that will last a good few years without any major component changes; but I understand the intention of a self build is interchangeability, saying that I'm willing to spend a bit more upfront if it saves me money in the long run. All the parts listed are the result of some research but I have just a few questions to shoot out there, feel free to advise totally different components with an applicable reason to help.

Additional Comments/Questions:

Motherboard - for my intention is it worth paying for the extreme7 instead of the extreme4?

CPU - Read this is basically a no brainer for gamers right now?

GPU - Get the feeling of a generally good, advisable card. If I were to use my 37" tv as another screen for iPlayer/Sky anytime use, would SLi be advisable or a totally different card? Maybe even AMD?

Cooling - as far as wanting to overclock the system would water cooling be an expensive novelty or a generally safer way of overclocking for my intended use?

Cheers in advance,

Tate

AMD's 7850 and 7870 cards are available in a few days . The 560 ti is not good value in comparison

OCing is pointless for gamers at this time . Graphics cards are the limitation

Only pay for mb features you need . All Z68 chipset mb's perform identically . Expensive models can mount more graphics cards but you have one [ or maybe two ]
