Router or Repeater?

Last response: in Networking
Share

Situation:
-Wifi needed on three floors, signal is often weak or sporadic on second and third floor.
-Router located on lowest floor, repositioning not an option

Current router: Verizon 327W

I have Ethernet ports wired to the second and third floor.
should i purchase a better router, or a wifi repeater, if I get a repeater, could i plug into the router using the Ethernet ports?

Any recommendations for ether a router or a repeater?

More about : router repeater

If you have wire leading from the lowest floor to the other floors, all you need are WAPs (wireless AP). Of course, a router can be used as a WAP (if you disable its DHCP server, assign it a static IP in the same subnet as the primary router, and connect it LAN to LAN) and are often more economical than a standalone WAP.
