Motherboard: ASUS m5a97
Old CPU: AMD Phenom II Black Edition x4 quad-core
New CPU: AMD FX-6100 x6 six-core
Graphics: Radeon 6450
RAM: 12GB total (all 4 slots filled, alternating 4GB-2GB-4GB-2GB)
-PNY Optima 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model
-2 sticks of 2GB RAM that was standard in HP retail build from 2009 - it is DDR3
OS: Windows 7 home edition
SATA HDD: main is from the HP retail build.. 500GB?
2nd SATA HDD: >500GB, I think Seagate

The MoBo + old CPU and all other hardware worked just fine.

I updated the BIOS with that setup as recc'd by the instructions with the new CPU.

I re-booted and all worked fine with the updated BIOS + old CPU.

I installed the new CPU - AMD FX-6100 and now nothing. No POST, blank monitor, fans come on but no booting.

I took out the new CPU, reinstalled the old CPU - it all works fine.

Reinstalled the new CPU and back to nothing (except fans).

How can I get this new CPU to work?

I've seen reviews about some Asus boards that despite being AM3+ boards (designed for FX processors) they have not had "out of the box" support for Bulldozers, I would recommend contacting Asus for support.

Thanks for your reply. I found a post in the forums at ASUS that I hope will help. Going to try that stuff tomorrow.
