In the middle of a build and need advice on thermal paste

Ok so im about to fit the CPU cooler, and its the stock one, (i know dont overclock with that cooler ) anyhow i have some mx-4 paste, so but could i just use the stuff on the cooler, it has these pads on... btw im using the i5 3570k

Really need some help,

The stuff that's on it will be fine, but if you decide to use the MX-4, just thoroughly clean off what's already there first.

is the cooler the heatsink too? i thought they had this copper plate thing? thanks for the reply.

If it's the stock cooler that comes with it, it does have a small copper disc in the middle.
