So i was planning on getting the GTX 560 ti 488 core card. That is about 300 dollars or so

For a similar price at like 350 dollars max, would two cards beat that card significantly, or should I just stick with the single?

Like would two 460's beat it?

probably a really dumb question, but i know nothing about sli or dual cards

Usually, SLI is not a big difference in performance.

There are some games that take advantage of SLI, but, generally, if you put two same cards you would get max ~ 50% more.

I'm not 100% sure for your case, but I would go for single gtx 560. Try to find some benchmarks to see real results.

Oh really?

I disagree with the person above....dual cards beat any single card priced around $300-$500. You can get 2X GTX 560s or 2X6870 for $300. Infact the 6870 CFX is almost on par with a GTX 580.

The issue with dual cards is some people see microstutter..I've never had the issue. Also you need 700W of PSU..so some people may not have that. Also drivers might be an issue in some games...I've never had issues but others do.

Frankly, wait for the 7870 in late Feb/March. It will be very close to a GTX 580 on a single card..and you can add a 2nd one 1-2yrs down the road so your investment will last longer. The 560 Ti 448 is a terribly priced card. It belongs at $250 not $280.

A GTX 570 is a good choice since it is just one level down from a 580 and if later on you want more performance you can add another and get great performance. You don't know what games may come out that are like BF3 and require a good video card to play it and with the 570 you will have that card and the option to add another.
