Hello,

I was looking to get the i5 3570k (same price as the i5 2500k)but didn't want to send the extra money on a z77 Mb. Does it make much difference if i get a z68 instead? Or should i just get the i5 2500k at that point?

2500K.
You won't be able to use the 3570K on a z68 motherboard without a BIOS update.

(short answer is at the bottom) it depends. do you have a GPU or are you just using the IGP? if so, spend the extra money on a Z77 mobo because you will need a BIOS update for your motherboard. cant do that without a CPU   if you have a graphics card, then get the 2500k. there isnt much of a CPU upgrade in IB, they focused more on the IGP which is now awesome, you can actually somewhat play high end games on minimum settings. you can actually get 30FPS on BF3. also, Intel cheaped out on the thermal paste they used for the CPU, so IB chips have insane heat issues when overclocked. you can only get to about 4.2GHz and keep low temps on air. even on watercooling, 4.5GHz still gets pretty hot.

if you have a GPU, get the 2500k.

Get a Z68 and a 2500k. if you got the 3570k you'd would need to get a z77 board... Now is what i would do. is get a 2500k and a z77 since the z77 chipset is a upgrade over z68

get the i5 2500k you won't see any difference in gaming and the motherboard will be cheaper, all around the better choice

Thx for all your answers it really helped. I do have a GPU its only a GTX 460 SE. So it looks like i will go with the 2500k and the z68. Now I can sleep tonight :)

another question then, would it be worth it to pick up another GTX 460 cheep and run dual gpu's?

yeah. if you can actually find a 460SE, it would be at a very cheap price. (they are hard to find now, even sold out on newegg) but dual 460SEs would be okay for a while. you should be able to max out games like BF3. two 460SEs will crap on a 480. not to mention 460SEs overclock amazingly because of their 650MHz stock speed. you could easily get it up to 800 if you have very good airflow in your case. have fun with your 2500k :)  i'm getting my 3770K next week :D
