Cheap rock solid Intel board, Intel DG41WV. Supports a max of only 4GB thoe...search around, u'll find better boards

A Core2 CPU really cannot use the extra memory bandwidth of DDR3 RAM. If your motherboard is working fine, it is not worth changing. Any performance increase will be unnoticeable.

So why do "modern" LGA775 Core2 boards use DDR3 RAM? Simple economics. Because RAM production has shifted from DDR2 to DDR3, DDR3 is much cheaper.
