6950 + 2 monitor woes

I recently upgraded my 5770 to a 6950. On my previous setup, I had one 120hz acer monitor and a 60hz dell. When I tried to apply the same settings to the new card, however, the dell monitor will absolutely not turn on unless I changed the refresh rate of my acer, which I'm not willing to do.
Can anyone explain to me why the card is trying to force both monitors to use the same refresh rate when an older model had no problem running them independently of each other?
