Good deal on ATI 5850? Crossfire compatible with mine?

I can get an "ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB DDR5 Graphics Card With 1080p HD-3D HDMI Port, Display Port & DVI Port + Fan Cooler!" for $120. I already have a Sapphire 5850 that I bought in January of 2010. Can I Crossfire these two even if they are different brands, they seem to have the same specs, I've just never had more than one GPU... I know I don't "need" to do this but I figure if I can get one cheap before they stop making them I'll be set for a few years. Here are my specs:

Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor BX80605I5750

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.2 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 ...

  1. Yes, that will work fine. Are you using this for gaming, and if so what resolution?
  2. Yes you should be fine. Even though they are from different companies - they are still compatible.

I believe it is similar with say a 6850+ 5850, but you would need the 6850 as the first GPU, and the 5850 as the second.
  3. 1920 x 1080 for now.
  4. Well, I ordered it...
  5. We have almost identical setups! Yeah it should work no problem.
  6. Oh, BTW... how do I install it? :P

Simply connect everything and it should be recognized? Maybe mess with a few things in the ATI software?
  7. 1) Shut down your computer

    2) Install 2nd GPU.

    3) Install Xfire bridge.

    4) Turn on computer

    5) You might have to re-install the catalyst control center software, although not 100% sure.
  8. Cool thats what I figured, thanks.
