Internet sharing between cell phone and laptop..PLZ HELP!!!

Hi,
I need help to set up a wi-fi connection between my laptop and cellphone..

My laptop:
Acer Aspire 4820t,
intel core i3, 2gb ram, running win7 home basic
Under network adapters in Control panel, the following items show up..
1.Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
2.Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter

My cellphone:
Motorola Defy running on Android v2.1(Eclair)

I use a USB modem to connect to the internet. I need to set up a wi-fi connection between the laptop and the phone so that i can use the internet connection using the phone. Is it possible? Please help

Please forgive my ignorance since i am a complete newbie to wireless networking!

in the Network and Sharing Center and choose Setup a new Connection or Network.

you could setup an Ad hoc connection

Actually i am completely ignorant when it comes to these matters!
Would you please explain a bit or tell me the steps to achieve this?

Also, i tried software like mhotspot, Virtual router and connectify..
Mhotspot and virtual router dint work ( i acnt say fr what reason), and connectif froze mid installation, n den i had to remove it!
