I have an fx-8120 @ 3.8ghz and it was like that til now with a stock cooler.

So today i bought a coolermaster hyper 212 evo and installed it.

First thing i noticed - idle temps (idle at 3.8ghz) dropped from ~35C to 15C.

Now when i ran prime95 my temps went as high as up to 60C until i canceled.

Whats wrong ? Even with my stock cooler it didnt go so high. I also noticed from HWmonitor, that my cpu fan speed still stayed at 1000rpm. Whats wrong ? :/

on 3.8ghz @ 1.3v i achieved 60C on each core in about 1-2minutes..
i doublechecked and the fan speed went up to like 1400rpm (old stock one went 3000).

also, my old stock cooler 3.8ghz @ 1.3v pulled 50C on each core and stabilized after like 15 minutes..

Ok try to tweak Fan RPM with any utility and see how it goes, best way is to use MOBO utility or just disable smart fan temporarily. Also, what if you leave Prime 95 for 30 mins?

well at idle (3.8ghz) it sits at 15C...

i used the thermalgrease that came with the cpu cooler and i added a little ball in the middle of the cpu that was about the size of a pea.

there wasnt anything on the heatsink....

also i just tried 4.0ghz at 1.45 volts and my idle temp was 30...
i activated prime and it jumped to 60, then 75 and then 88 and then i closed it.

it all happened in like 5 seconds...

somethigns clearly not right :/

also i couldnt achieve any overclock above 4.0ghz without going higher than 1.45volts

When I installed the paste, I put it all on the CPU, straightened it with a card and when I dropped the cooler on it I just wiped the squeezed paste with a tissue? So what's wrong with the too much paste? :D

@OP

Did you try increasing the FAN RPM as I told you above?

just reinstalled it.
took a bag and smeared the thermal paste evenly all over the cpu and cooler...

gonna test temps now.

4.0ghz @ 1.325 volts...

temps were 30C, turned on prime and temps jumped to 50, then 60, then 65 and then continued to rise 1-2C each second til 85 and then i stopped it....

somethings CLEARLY wrong.

alright got a suggestion from a friend:

"the dot in the middle doesent work with direct-copper-heatpipes, take off the cooler and put stripes of thermal compound on the copper heatpipes"

gonna try that

aaaa *** yeaaaa!

got it working the way my buddy suggested - took the heatsink off, cleaned the cpu and the heatsink with 40% alcohol. Put a thin line of thermal paste on each copper heatpipe and installed it.

4.0ghz @ 1.325 volts and temps are about 54-56 degrees :)
idle is 15-18

so ******* happy :)
