Hello,
So I have my birthday coming up, while I am enjoying my ATi 5770, I've come to despise ATi over the years i have used the card, especially in crossfire. Now I'm sure we don't need to hear the reasons why, all you need to know is I want to buy a new graphics card soon, and i was thinking about the GTX 560Ti. So i have 260$ right now from work and some christmas monney also. My Birthday is 22nd, so that will add 150$ maybe not too sure. I've had my eye on this graphics card for some time now but with my birthday i could possibly wait a little while longer and get a GTX 580. I game at 1680x1050, so it would be over kill.

But, what is Nvidia doing with their 7xx series? Are these cards on the way? I don't want to have to wait 6 months to get a card, and i would be happy to grab a 560Ti-580. How much would the 5xx series drop in price when the new series comes out? What are peoples thoughts on waiting for the new generation or sticking with the old.

The GTX 560 Ti would drop to around the price of today's GTX 460. Though, I wouldn't count on price drop or getting 7xx series card before June.

If I were you, I'd take GTX 560 Ti. I am using it at 1920x1080, and it can max pretty much almost every game out there - with the exceptions being BF3, Metro 2033 and Crysis 2.

If your waiting for nvidia's next gen, it will probably be a while. The price can be rather complicated. It not only depends on what cards and prices nvidia has but also what their competitor, amd, has available and what they're charging. Since we don't have any verified specifics about anything except the 7970, it would just be a huge guessing game.

If you can wait like 1-2 months, there's probably a chance some of the nvidia next gen cards will be released. If waiting that long(or longer) doesn't sound like something you want to do, you should probably just grab something now.

I wouldn't get 5770, because it won't last you a very long time if you want to play at high graphics (I suppose you do, because you've looked even at GTX 580).

id get a 7970.
its brand new so you wont be replacing it for a long time.
you can crossfire later too if you want to upgrade your monitor.
if you cant afford a 7970 now i sugsest you wait until you can.
your paying for a card any way so why not get the best.

my biggest problem with the 7970, is that while it is faster. its not that much faster then a GTX 580, and for the price of a stock, non aftermarket cooler 7970 i can get a overclocked, aftermarket cooler 580.

Actually, the 7970 is quite a bit better than the 580, even the stock 7970. If you live in the US, its no contest, 7970 is the better buy. If you live in like europe, australia, etc... Where the 7970 is costing like 200-300 usd more than msrp, then its not so good of a buy.
Here's basically some combination scores, one is with lower settings and one is with higher settings

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2011-gaming-graphics-charts/Enthusiast-Index,2674.html
both are essentially an overall score of most of the tests here http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2011-gaming-graphics-charts/benchmarks-1,123.html
If you look around other sites you'll find pretty much the same thing, obviously it varies from game to game.
