6870 1gb vs 6950 2gb

I just built a new computer with an i5 2500. I have narrowed my gpu down to:
Sapphire Radeon 6870 1gb $164.99
Sapphire Radeon 6950 2bg $279.99

I am gaming on a 20" monitor running at 1600x900. Is the 6950 worth the extra $115?

I just want to play some of the new games.

Buy 6870. On that resolution is the best option. If you want to upgrade your monitor to fullHD resolution than 6950 is better than 6870.

The 6870 will handle your resolution great. The 6950 will do it better but I think based on that price comparison, the 6870 is a much better value.

for your res, a 6870 would be cheaper and well-suited.
what are your full specs (including amperes on your psu's +12v rail)?

You can get 1gb 6950 for 209.99 with free dirt3 game or for $20 more 2gb version. However, I would wait till 7950 is out and the prices of 6000 series would drop few $$. Or just get a used card from ebay 6950 goes for <$200

6870 is great for your resolution but 6950 can give you little extra FPS so you can play with all eye candies on

I do see myself upgrading to a new card in a year. I guess I could go with the 6870, play some old games I've missed, and then upgrade to one of the newer cards January of next year. I only buy from Amazon, because I have come to trust them as an e merchant. They have always been good to me customer service wise.
