Newb monitor question

I just bought a new lg e2240 21.5'' monitor. I also have a radeon 9800 pro card.

In display properties the slider will go up to 1920x1080 but if i select it and apply i lose a lot of the screen as if its zoomed in to about 130%?

I have updated the graphics card driver and monitors one that came with it and thats where my ignorance ends.

Please help me.

Use the catalyst control center to adjust resolution.
