flash extention cord question

greets,

i'm using a sony DSC-F828 with the HVL-F1000 flash, which works fairly
nice together. however i'd love to get the flash unit away from the
camera and unfortunetly the connection cord is only 6 inches long. i've
looked and looked (googles is my friend) and can't seem to find an
extention cord for this camera/flash setup. i did find one gent that
will make an extention cord, but i'd rather not bother someone i don't
know/have no info on.

what would be my next option? remote flash unit? or something simular?
if that's the route i need to take what else should i be looking up?
i've only been into photography for the last year, so i've still got
quite the learning curve here. i'd rather just have a sync cord or
extention cord, then have to learn how to deal w/ a remote unit on top
of all the other things i'm trying to get a grasp of.

any ideas welcome.
