7970 Idle at 60c!

Is that normal?

I heard that this card has some sort of function that disables the fan so it can be totally silent! Is this what's going on?

Why is it so hot?

Everything else seems to be normal, just the videocard running really hot.

It's max value is 60C, i think there should be some option in catalyst control center. Btw a bit off topic, you shouldn't be pushing your 2500k to 4.7 with a hyper 212 lol

It started to go down because I manually set the fans to 100% on catalyst control center.

I don't get temps past 65c on my cpu when OC'd. I'm using it on default settings right now to try the new card. I'm also getting rid of it as soon as Ivy Bridge come out.

Well, it doesn't matter what I do, temps don't go above 67c, but they hang around 60c all the time

as long as they don't go up too much.

the auto control must be adjusting the fan speed.

The auto fan sets the fan to not cool the card more when you already reach down to 60C, probably because they don't want to make the card noisy when not gaming. And when you game, this is when the fan shine and be noisy to cool down the temperature not go above 70C.

After all, you are good .

download the newest driver(again if you already have)
i never had problems with gpu-z. so try it mabye it will give a better reading

also open the case and see if the fan is accually spinning becuase that is a really high idle temp

That would be a monimal idle temp if you have multiple monitor on lol

I had the same reading from OHW and CCC.

One thing I realized, I'm using the "weight lifter" that comes with it, but my case has the PSU on the bottom so the weight lifter is on top of the PSU, and the weight lifter has a magnet on the bottom, do you think it has something to do with that? Is it bad to keep a magnet against your PSU?

And.. Do I really need to use that? I mean, I have the screws attached to the side of the bracket, shouldn't it be enough?
