Hello,

I have a ATI HD Radeon 6870 OC edition, same as my friend and he gets 80-100 FPS on Battlefield 3 with the same specs and settings as me. I get 30-40FPS which is really worrying me.

I go into device settings and I see something strange.

1. I see my radeon 6870 card.
2. Below that, I see Intel (R) HD Graphics Family

Why is the intel r showing up? My friend has the SAME specs and he doesnt have the intel r. Anyways, i think that intel r is bottlenecking my radeon 6870. Do you think it's safe to uninstall the driver?

Also, here are my specs:

ATI Radeon HD 6870 1GB
8GB RAM 1600
ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core i5 2500k 3.3 GHz
500GB HDD WD 7200 RPM

SOLVED:

Actually, for all of you saying I can't get 60 FPS on ultra with no AA.. I got it. Here is what I did. I set everything to Ultra with no v-sync and AA. Went into catalyst control center and turned down things to performance under the gaming tab and wala! im getting 60-70 fps on ultra and 80-90 on high.

I also used this file which helps a lot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3uHhIDAYMI

Your friend is a liar. I have a 2 GB XFX 6870 (2 actually) and an identical processor. I'm not sure what your settings are, but I get around the FPS you mentioned playing BF3 at max 1080p. The Intel integrated you mentioned are the integrated graphics that come with your processor, I see them too. They're not an issue. Ask your friend what his settings are, or in what part of the game he gets 80 - 100 FPS.

No he isn't a liar. We are on the same settings and I played at his house a lot with BF3. He gets a lot of FPS. He even gave me the user.cfg file that improves the FPS but that only helped me by 5. Btw, v-sync and AA is off but everything else is ultra.

Sorry, didn't mean to insult the guy. I'm sure he's not lying, but he's the one with the issue. I can't get those FPS with 6870 crossfire. No single GPU card, not even top of the line cards like a GTX 580 could. Look at any benchmarks. Idk if his user config file in someway disabled some important post effects or something, but he's not ACTUALLY running the game at ultra settings. Like I said, probably disabled stuff without releasing it or has some corrupted game files. Either way, you don't have an issue.

Well then I don't know how he's getting that much fps. He is using the ingame ctrl + alt + s to check the fps and so am i. He doesn't lag at all on the back 2 karkand map pack and I do.

Use fraps to make sure its accurate. Either way, think of it this way. He's certainly not actually running the game at ultra. If you want his FPS, just turn the settings down. Also crossfiring your 6870s would practically double your FPS.

It runs great because you're not actually running it at ultra. All you're doing is forcing your display drivers to not actually render at the quality the game wants. So you're really running the game at medium or low. There's obviously no point in that, sure it says "ultra settings" in the settings, but it's not actually running at ultra because you disabled most of the effects.

Yeah and forcing AA, AF, tesselation, and other texture stuff off through Catalyst would certainly degrade quality. What's the obsession with having your settings say "ultra" just because the game says that doesn't mean it is.
