Computer processor comparison

Hello, What is the difference between AMD Athlon 3700+ 2.20GHZ processor and AMD Dual-Core A4-3400 APU (2.8 GHz) Processor. The first one I have in a desk top running Windows XP. Should I upgrade my whole package and go for a newer system to manage windows 7?

Yes you should Windows 7 will be painful on a single core.
